Reception had a very adventurous afternoon, using a fantastic new app called Google Expeditions. The children were able to explore Antarctica, the Northern Lights, the Great Wall of China and under the sea without ever leaving the classroom. There were many moments of wonder and the children are very excited to use the app again soon.
As part of our Made on the Isle of Wight topic, Reception were invited to visit Cowes Lifeboat Station, to learn all about the work of the RNLI and their volunteers. The children had a fun packed morning, seeing the lifeboat up close, trying to rescue teddy who was stranded in his boat and spotting all the dangers on the beach. We would like to say a very big thank you to all the volunteers who gave up their time to support our visit. Last week, we also had a visit from Viv from the Wight Squirrel Project. She taught the children all about where red squirrels can be found on the Isle of Wight, as well as the foods they eat and how to look for clues of squirrel activity. The children are keen to be detectives and look out for signs of red squirrels around school and their homes. http://www.wightsquirrels.co.uk/index.html Last week, Reception had a visit from Justin and Lisa from the police. It was a great opportunity for the children to meet their local police officers and find out all about what their jobs involve. The children were also lucky enough to learn about all the equipment police officers carry and get to try on some police uniform, as well as talk to the control room. The children really enjoyed their afternoon and we might even have some future police officers in the making. |
