On Friday 17th June, the whole school took part in Empty Classroom Day. This is a national initiative to promote more outdoor learning opportunities for children. Although Reception have continual access to outdoor learning, we still thoroughly enjoyed a whole day promoting outdoor learning and play. We began with a treasure hunt, finding all sorts of interesting objects in the outdoor environment. We used these to make pictures through a process called transient art. We also went on a scavenger hunt and identified and collected leaves to complete leaf rubbings. Finally we had an outdoor music lesson using the boom whackers, which lead to some very interesting games of follow the leader!

On Friday 8th July, Lanesend held it's second Careers Day. We had a wide range of visitors come into school and hold workshops for the children all about their jobs. Highlights for Reception included policemen, paramedics, a hairdresser, a nurse and an archaeologist. The children were very inspired to start thinking about their own future careers.
To celebrate the Queen's 90th Birthday, we held a special royal tea party last Monday. The children came to school dressed in red, white and blue and we made Union Jack flags, as well as learning lots of facts about the Queen. To finish the day, we dressed up as Kings and Queens and had our photos taken in the royal photo booth. On Friday. the whole school celebrated kindness day by making and wearing badges to show what kindness means to them. Reception had been working with Mrs Domoney throughout the week to talk about how we show kindness and how it makes us feel They then produced some very colourful badges and wore them with pride.
Reception are really enjoying completing the mile challenge and took part in their most recent one after Friday morning celebration assembly. They have shown super stick-ability each time we do this and we definitely have some future cross country runners in our classes. |
